Welcome

Howdy,

Welcome to our VKOT website! I'm Lacey Ann Garcia and I'm the President of Vikings Kicking Out Tobacco (VKOT). I am a senior who is enrolled in AP/IB classes, orchestra, and the National Honor Society. After high school, I plan on attending UT Arlington where I will major in Business Administration in Management. I've been apart of VKOT for 3 years. It's been so exciting to lead such a dynamic organization. Members of VKOT strive to make a difference in the lives of our peers and members of the community. I hope to come back to Bryan /College Station to further my work with the Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (BVCASA). #VKOT4LIFE!!!

In Review

VKOT completed a record number of projects during the 2021-22 school year. For the first time since our creation, we completed a total of 48 projects. We also recovered from COVID-19. This was monumental since we were shut down in the spring of 20 and through the 20-21 school year. We had to basically restart all over because all of our members had graduated during this time and we entered this school year with only one remaining member. We recruited and finished out the year with almost 30 very active members.

In the 2022-23 school year, we hosted our very own summit in Bryan ISD - VKOT'S BISD Action Summit. A total of 180 students from grades 5-12 were in attendance. We were proud to share information with our peers about the harmful effects of tobacco and vaping, prevention strategies, and how tobacco companies target youth with their deadly poison. On April 30, 2024, we will be hosting a Youth Symposium, in an effort to create a healthier Bryan ISD. It will include students in grades 7 - 11. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for VKOT and Bryan ISD!
